Golow i nski ( Russian Головинский ) is a district of Moscow ( Russia ) in the Northern Administrative District east of the " Leningrader Chaussee " arterial road , west of the St. Petersburg – Moscow railway line and north of the Moscow Small Railway Ring . The district is 880.65 hectares and has around 82,500 inhabitants.

The place name comes from the former village of Golowino, which has been known since the 16th century and also had a monastery from the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. During the Soviet era , the monastery was closed and the former village of Golowino was incorporated into Moscow in the 1960s. Since the 1930s, when the Moscow-Volga Canal was laid near to the west , the former Golowino has been actively developed with industrial plants and residential quarters. In 1991, the Golovinsky district was officially formed, the area of ​​which, in addition to Golovino, also includes territories of the neighboring former villages of Nikolskoje and Michalkowo.

Today there are over 50 industrial companies in Golowinski. The total area of ​​the green spaces in the district amounts to 184.5 hectares. Metro Station Wodny stadium of the Moscow Metro is in the area of the district.
