Goofy Foot

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As Goofy Foot position at is surfing designated when the surfer has the right foot forward. The opposite position is called a regular foot . While regular foot surfers prefer waves with breaks on the right hand, goofy footers prefer to surf waves with breaks on the left. Most surfers keep the foot position they started with. Only the very best feel equally comfortable with both positions. The ability to easily switch from regular foot to goofy foot is known as switchfoot . This allows you to adjust your posture precisely to the waveform and the break direction. Surfing with both foot positions forces the central nervous system to distribute body weight in a different way. This improves the ability to balance in the middle of the surfboard. Whether someone is a natural regular footer or a goofy footer is determined by which foot they put forward when they are surprisingly pushed from behind. If he takes his right foot, he is a goofy footer.

etymology

The phrase comes from the 1937 Disney cartoon Hawaiian Holiday (published 1941), in which the characters Pluto and Goofy go surfing. While trying to learn to surf, Goofy stands with his right foot in front of the surfboard. In this attempt, however, he has an accident and ends up in a grave.
