Google advertising network

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Google advertising network is part of the AdWords advertising system of the media company Google . It is divided into the sub-areas Google Display Network and the Google Search Network.

Google search advertising network

The Google search advertising network is divided into "Google search", which includes both the Google search engine as well as YouTube , Google Maps , Google Shopping or Google Images, and the search for so-called "partners in the search advertising network" such as AOL or T-Online . The latter also includes a few selected partner sites such as ebay or Amazon . The search and advertising network can be activated or deactivated, but individual pages cannot be specifically selected. The Google advertising network should not be confused with the Google Display Network.

Google Display Network

The Google Display Network consists of a large number of websites that make advertising space available to Google via the Adsense system .

functionality

Anyone who owns an Internet presence can sign up for the AdSense program. After a check, the publishers then have the option of making advertising space on their website available to other advertisers via Google. The advertisers can occupy these areas via the Adwords user interface. The Google advertising network consists of over a million websites that offer advertising space on their Internet presence via the AdSense system.

The ads in the display network can be aligned according to the following criteria:

  • Contextual
  • By placements (URLs, domains)
  • By subject
  • According to interest
  • Geographically
  • Demographic
  • About remarketing

The various targeting options can be used individually or combined with one another.

history

The Adsense system formed the basis for today's advertising network. In 2007, Google bought the advertising company Doubleclick in order to introduce Google Doubleclick Exchange in September 2009 with the know-how it had gained . Doubleclick Exchange is a marketplace for graphic advertising. Until then, only text ads could be delivered via the AdSense advertising space.

Advertising formats

The Google Display Network supports text, picture, rich media and video ads. Image ads can be used in the form of static or animated banners in .jpg, .gif or Flash format. All common sizes such as skycraper, leaderboard or rectangle formats can be switched. For performance reasons, however, Google limits the size to a maximum of 50 kB per image display. Animations cannot run longer than 15 seconds. Video ads can have a maximum duration of two minutes.
