Google Lively

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Google Lively was a web-based virtual environment from the company Google Inc. With this online service, Google entered a similar terrain as the Second Life platform . The project existed from July 9, 2008 to December 31, 2008. No further reasons for the relatively quick completion were given.

Google Lively was only supported by Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox and the Windows Vista and Windows XP operating systems , and also required broadband Internet access to function properly .

properties

The interface of Google Lively was based on comic strips . Up to 20 people could be in a virtual room and chat with each other . The text appeared in speech bubbles above the avatars . Users could create their own virtual environments and hang videos from YouTube or photos from Picasa on the walls, for example . Each room could be explored with different camera angles.

In contrast to competing offers such as Second Life, Google Lively has deliberately incorporated fewer functions. For example, it was not possible to buy or sell products. The individual rooms were also not connected to one another.
