Google Shopping (formerly Google Product Search , Froogle ) is a search engine for products by the US company Google . In June 2017, the European Commission imposed a record fine of 2.42 billion euros on the service because its own shopping results were unfairly prioritized in Google search .

history

Froogle has existed in the United States and Great Britain since December 2002, and in the beta phase in Germany since 2008. In April 2007, the Froogle search service was renamed Google Product Search and is now called Google Shopping .

functionality

Using Google Shopping is free for buyers; It is funded by Google Ads as well as payments from sellers for clicks on their products. Originally the offer was also free for sellers, but became chargeable on February 13, 2013.

Retailers can enter their products manually or automatically using tools for Product Listing Ads (PLA). In the past, the data stock of Google Shopping also consisted of automatically searched websites, similar to the data stock of Google .

The offer is not an internet shop, it only offers search and comparison functions as well as links to the product pages of other internet shops.
