Google Search Console (until May 20, 2015 Google Webmaster Tools ) is a free analysis tool from Google LLC that supports website operators with search engine optimization (SEO).

Functions

The data and reports available in the Search Console are available to a webmaster after successful confirmation as a website owner. This requires a Google account and the integration of a confirmation key on the website. (. Eg voice paths such as / s /) in the Google Search Console next to sites or directories of a website can also Android - apps are confirmed.

Various reports can be viewed in the Search Console and a website can be configured. In the tool, Google provides information on aspects such as speed, user-friendliness, security and so-called manual measures (penalties).

In addition, the internal and external links of a website can be analyzed and problems with so-called crawling by the Googlebot can be identified (e.g. so-called dead links ). Further reports help to ensure the problem-free display of websites on mobile devices, to check the sitemap or the robots.txt and to evaluate the structured data found (for example using schema.org ).

Search analysis is one of the most important functions of the Google Search Console. In this report, the webmaster can see for which terms their own website (or app) appears in the unpaid search results. Since 2011, this information has been transmitted less and less to web analysis programs by Google searches ("Not provided") and can only be partially evaluated in web analysis tools. The search analysis report was fundamentally revised in May 2015.

The data from the Google Search Console can be linked to other Google offers, such as Google Analytics and Google Ads . Google notifies webmasters via the Google Search Console in the event of problems with the website. Notifications are sent, for example, when malware is found on the website, content management systems that are no longer up -to- date or an increase in crawling errors.

On January 8, 2018, Google rolled out a revised version of the search console called Google Search Console beta. In addition to a graphic facelift, the fact that search data is now offered over a period of up to 16 months should be mentioned in particular. Previously, the freely accessible database only covered a period of 3 months and could only be "bypassed" by external services through exports.
