Gorges de Régalon
The Gorges de Régalon ( Regalon Gorge ) is a gorge in the south of the Petit Luberon, west of the municipality of Mérindol in southern France .
geography
The Régalon Gorge separates the Crau des Mayorques karst area in the west from the Crau de Saint-Phalez in the east. The gorge is not far north of Département road 973.
geology
The Régalon brook dug into the surrounding Uronic limestone and formed the gorge.
visit
From the parking lot you get to the entrance via paths lined with pine and olive trees, which is at a height of approx. 140 m and can then rise to the upper end of the gorge at approx. 250 m. From there, various paths lead to the plateaus, including the Crau des Mayorques with the former Ferme des Mayorques .
It is strongly advised not to visit the gorge in rainy weather or when there is a risk of rain, as the water level can rise abruptly and there is also a risk of landslides. The risk of landslides also meant that access to the gorge had to be closed again and again, most recently in the period from April 2014 to September 2015.
