Alektora ( Greek Αλέκτορα , Turkish Gökağaç ) is a municipality in the district of Limassol in Cyprus . At the 2011 census it had 64 inhabitants.
Location and surroundings
Alektora is located in the southwest of the island of Cyprus at an altitude of 236 meters, about 78 km southwest of the capital Nicosia , 29 km west of Limassol and 23 km southeast of Paphos .
The place is about 6 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast in the coastal hinterland. The Paphos district begins to the west of the municipality .
Places in the area are Archimandrita in the Paphos district in the north, Anoyra in the northeast, Platanistia and Agios Thomas in the east, Pissouri in the southeast and again in the Paphos Kouklia district in the southwest and Souskio and Fasoula in the west.
history
The village was mainly inhabited by Cypriot Turks until the northern part was occupied by Turkish troops in the course of the Cyprus conflict . In 1964 the village took in some Cypriot Turkish refugees from Gerovasa and Malia . The residents initially fled to the British area of Akrotiri and were almost completely resettled in Pentagia in Northern Cyprus from January 1975 .
