Prodromos |
Prodromos , in Greek Πρόδρομος , is a village in the Limassol district on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus . It is located in the Troodos Mountains near the Olympos at an altitude of 1380 meters, making it the highest village on the island. In 2011 the place had 123 inhabitants. Prodromos is the location of a winter sports center with three ski slopes.
Buildings
The main church of the village, Agios Ioannis Prodromos (Saint John the Forerunner) is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist as the forerunner (Prodromos) of Jesus Christ . The church was built in 1935 on the site of a previous building from the 13th century.
The chapels of Agios Onoufrios and Agias Triadas are also located in the village . The Trikoukias Monastery is two kilometers outside the village.
