Agios Athanasios ( Greek Άγιος Αθανάσιος ) is a town in the district of Limassol in Cyprus . At the 2011 census it had 14,347 inhabitants.

Agios Athanasios is located in the south of the island of Cyprus at an altitude of 75 meters, about 56 km southwest of the capital Nicosia , 2 km northeast and east of Limassol and 56 km east of Paphos .

The city is located directly on the Mediterranean in the greater Limassol area and extends up to 4 kilometers inland. It has hotels close by, an industrial area, refugee center and suburban residential area. The motorway 1 runs directly through Agios Athanasios and the main road B1 on the coast .

Municipalities in the area are Fasoula and Mathikoloni in the north, Germasogeia in the east and Mesa Geitonia and Limassol in the west.

history

Agios Athanasios has grown from a small rural community to a fast growing city. Today it consists of four districts and is the fourth largest settlement in the Limassol district by population.
