A GOST standard is usually preceded by the designation GOST in Cyrillic letters, followed by the number of the standard, a hyphen and a final two-digit number. This designates the year in which the standard was drawn up, but this does not necessarily coincide with the year in which it came into force.

Example: ГОСТ 10691-84 (light sensitivity of photographic material, as amended in 1984)

GOST certification

There is a certification requirement for goods imported into the Russian Federation . This certification is comparable with the ISO - certification . Since Russia does not recognize the quality standards and norms mentioned as such, the conformity of the products to be exported with the Russian standards and regulations must be checked and proven. In most cases, products without certification will not find buyers or have to be sold below value.

The certificates issued are an essential part of the necessary export documents for the Russian customs authorities. For manufacturers with a one-year or three-year series certificate, enclosing a certified copy of the original certificate is sufficient.

GOST certificates represent an essential quality feature in the Russian domestic market, which achieves an advertising effect that should not be underestimated. The certificate is perceived by the end user as an expression of high quality and often leads to increasing sales.

Furthermore, wholesalers and retailers in the Russian domestic market as well as industrial companies are obliged to present the certificates at the request of a customer or public inspector.
