Gottlieb Bechter

Gottlieb Bechter (born March 26, 1872 in Hittisau ; † November 26, 1960 there ) was an Austrian politician ( CSP ), poor house manager and farmer. From 1930 to 1932 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament and from 1909 to 1919 mayor of Hittisau.

education and profession

Bechter graduated from elementary school in Hittisau and was subsequently employed in his parents' farm until he was 21. He then did active military service and worked as an accountant and duty officer. After his discharge from military service, Bechter again worked in his parents' farm and from 1898 found a job in the community hall of Hittisau. Furthermore, he made himself self-employed by managing his own property in Hittisau.

Politics and functions

Bechter was a member of the Christian Social Party and was elected to the Hittisau community council in 1898. He was a member of this until 1936 and was also a member of the municipal council from 1901 to 1909. In 1909 he took over the function of the mayor of his home parish and held this office until 1919. Bechter ran for the Christian Social Party in the Bregenz constituency in the 1928 state elections, and on June 10, 1930, he succeeded Barnabas Fink in the state parliament. He was a member of this until November 21, 1932.

Bechter was also a founding member and chairman of the veterans' association as well as a founding member and from 1910 to 1937 chairman of the Brown Cattle Breeding Association. He was also a board member of the Vorarlberger Genossenschaftsverband and was active in the Hittisau Citizen Music and the men's choir.

Private

Gottlieb Bechter was the son of the farmer Johann Georg Bechter (1826–1893) and his wife Anna Maria Schwarz (1835–1917). He married Christina Bechter (1865–1938) in Hittisau on June 25, 1900 and in 1901 had a son.
