Gounghin (Ouagadougou)

Gounghin is a district in the west of the Burkinabe capital Ouagadougou , belonging to the Arrondissement Baskuy , and is divided into two sectors ( north and south , or 9 and 8), which are separated by the highway to Bobo-Dioulasso .

It is the traditional seat of the Goung-Naaba, a member of the court of the emperor of the Mossi . Gounghin Nord is home to the country's national stadium ( Stade du 4-Août ), a military camp (camp militaire Sangoulé-Lamizana) and the military cemetery, where the former president Sangoulé Lamizana is buried. Both sectors have a market and there is also an industrial area (zone industrial de Gounghin) . In Gounghin is Petit Paris , which was one of the first residential areas for the French.
