Grænseforeningen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Grænseforeningen ( Grenzverein ) is a large Danish cultural association that was founded in Schleswig after the referendum in 1920 and supports the Danish-oriented part of the population south of the border since then. Today the association has around 12,000 members (mostly in Denmark, but also in southern Schleswig ), who are organized in 60 local groups.

The association publishes the magazine Grænsen (The Border) six times a year . The association has several funds so that numerous projects in southern Schleswig can be financially supported. On the other hand, the association tries to establish contacts in Denmark in southern Schleswig and to impart knowledge about the border region and the minority. The Grænseforeningen is a member of the Dansk Folkeoplysnings Samråd (Danish Adult Education Association).
