Green surface
Green covering is a greenish discoloration on stone, wood or plastic caused by plant microorganisms and other organic material. Together with algae , moss and lichens , chlorophyll- containing microorganisms often adhere and grow on terrace slabs and paving stones laid horizontally or with a slight incline, as well as on roofs, tombstones , sculptures and wooden structural components.
distance
Even if the dirt often has its own charm, there is often a risk of slipping and, in the long term, the risk of further deterioration of the stone or wood underneath. When removing it, it is important to ensure that the stone is not unnecessarily roughened, otherwise the green deposit will be even more difficult to remove in the future. Wire brushes and high pressure lamps held too close to the stone surface are therefore not suitable.
There are many commercially available cleaning fluids that can be used to remove green deposits, lichen, algae and pollen from stone slabs. Green growth removers are mostly chemicals that combine washing-active substances with biocidal , i.e. killing, active ingredients.
Verdigris
Green Growth is incorrectly colloquially occasionally verdigris called. While the pigment in green coverings consists of chlorophyll , verdigris is made up of copper salts, for example beneath copper chimneys , gutters or other plumbing work.
