Start-up competition - IKT Innovativ
The Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) supported the start-up competition - Innovative ICT 2010-2015 start-ups, in which innovative information and communication technology key component of the product or service of the participants was. The competition, which takes place every six months, offered prize money as start-up capital for setting up a company. All award winners received coaching. The successor to the competition has been the start-up competition - digital innovations since 2016 . With the implementation of the competition, as with its predecessor, the "Start-up competition - start successfully with multimedia" was theVDI / VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH (VDI / VDE-IT) commissioned. The awards were given annually at CeBIT in Hanover and at IFA in Berlin. In addition, the winning teams in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015 at the “Young ICT Economy” congress were considered for the “ICT Founding of the Year” of the Federal Ministry of Economics.

In each round of the competition, up to six start-up ideas were awarded main prizes of 30,000 euros each. The prize money should serve as start-up capital for setting up a company. A partial amount of 6,000 euros was paid out after the award ceremony. The remaining payment of 24,000 euros was linked to the specific establishment of a company in the form of a GmbH or an AG based in Germany.
The independent jury consisted of representatives from business and science who helped the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, most recently the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, in making the decision.
The following criteria were evaluated: level of innovation of the start-up idea, market potential and competitiveness of the product or service, feasibility of the start-up concept and qualifications and experience of the participants or the team. In addition to financial support, coaching and advising the founders were an essential part of the competition.
In the first step, a strategy workshop took place in which the participants' start-up ideas were analyzed with regard to their strengths and weaknesses as well as opportunities and risks. The winners were then advised on-site by experts from the nationwide coaching network on their specific issues, and in-depth knowledge on topics such as communication, online marketing and legal aspects of corporate management or financial acquisition was imparted in special seminars.
Participation requirements
All persons residing in Germany who intended to set up a company in Germany were entitled to participate.
If the participants had already been founded in the form of a GmbH or AG, they could not have been registered more than four months ago. Entrepreneurial companies (UG) were excluded from this rule .
