The degree barkometer ( unit symbol : ° Bk or ° Bark ), also degree Eitner , after the Austrian chemist Wilhelm Eitner , is a unit in the leather industry with which the relative density of tanning liquors is determined. The term degree barkometer is particularly common in the USA and Great Britain , since there the scalding knife is called a barkometer.
