Graham Condon

Graham Condon (born February 11, 1949 , † September 8, 2007 in Christchurch ) was a New Zealand politician and Paralympic athlete.

Condon was dependent on a wheelchair after suffering from polio in his childhood. Between 1968 and 1988 he took part in a total of six Paralympic Games and 17 international competitions for New Zealand . He achieved several world records and won seven Paralympic medals.

In 1995 he was elected to Christchurch City Council. Overall, Condon was re-elected four times and ran for elections in October 2007. In September 2007, however, he died in a traffic accident in Christchurch when he was taking a training ride with his handbike and was hit by a car. Condon was married and had two children.

The planned Christchurch North Recreation Center will be built in memory of Condon as the Graham Condon Recreation and Sport Center .
