Granules

Silver granules

In metallurgy , granules (from Latin granum 'grain') are ores with admixtures of foreign substances that have solidified into small spheres when cooled. Granules are individual elements of a granulate and consist of primary particles, organic additives, residual amounts of dispersion liquid and air. The drop-shaped, spherical structures are created when a fine jet of liquid slag or metal flows into flowing water.

The material that accumulates to form granules in a rotating container during the production of concrete is also described as “granules”. In the chemical industry, in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals and in the manufacture of workpieces for silver and goldsmithing, one also speaks of granules.
