Grannyfist is an Australian grindcore and death metal band from Newcastle , which was founded in 2003, disbanded the following year and has been active again since 2006.
history
The band was founded in 2003 as a duo consisting of Luke "Granny" Hoskins (electric guitar, vocals, samples) and drummer Paul "Saint Fistopher" McIntyre. Occasional vocal passages were contributed by Matthew "Cut Off Bloody Hand" Close. In the same year a self-titled debut album was released. Remixed versions of ten songs on the album appeared later on some of the other different versions of the 2006 EP grannyfist X . At the end of the following year the group disintegrated and the release of the second album Fisting Granny was postponed. After the breakup, the album was released in 2005. In September 2006, the group reunited for an appearance due to the increasing interest in the second album. Since this was successful, it was decided to permanently reactivate the group. Luke Hoskins decided not to play the electric guitar, for which Cal "Smashed Up Head" Blackman was added. Since Blackman was unable to attend a few concerts due to an overseas visit and a prison term, Mathew "Fist Fistofferson" Hoskins took over this post. Blackman later returned briefly to the band before he left this again and Mathew Hoskins took this post permanently. In 2008 Jason "Papa Wristdeep" Lambley joined as bassist. In 2010, the third album, Double Penetration , was released via Grindhead Records . In 2012 the first DVD was released with Grannyfist - The Movie .
style
According to Brian Giffin in his Encyclopedia of Australian Heavy Metal , the band plays grindcore and the songs are very quick and short. On metal-roos.com.au the band was assigned to Death Metal and Grindcore.
