Grawidan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Grawidan ( Russian Гравидан , from Latin graviditas = pregnancy) is a hormone preparation obtained by filtration from the urine of pregnant women , which is supposed to induce feelings of happiness and increase physical performance. It was developed in 1928 by the Soviet scientist Alexei Samkow , husband of the sculptor Vera Ignatjewna Muchina , and spread as a kind of “miracle drug” in the Soviet Union. The poet Maxim Gorky was also an avid supporter of the drug.

Grawidan was also used to feed animals. An exact manufacturing recipe is not documented.

After Gorky died in 1936 and Alexei Samkow died in 1942, Grawidan fell into oblivion.
