Green Island is an island in the north of the Australian state of Queensland and is located about 27 km east of Cairns .
Geology and formation
Green Island is located on a 720 hectare coral reef and is only 15 hectares in size. It is approx. 300 m wide and 650 m long with a circumference of 1.5 km.
history
The island got its name from James Cook , who named it after the astronomer Charles Green .
Tourist information
It can u. A. snorkel, dive and visit the tropical rainforest on the island. Tours to the Outer Great Barrier Reef are also offered.
Several companies offer day tours to the island from Cairns.
