Greetsieler week
The Greetsieler Woche is an annual art week to which selected German and Dutch artists (upon application) are invited to exhibit their works. These are usually works for sale. The art week is supported by the working group Greetsieler Woche eV and has been taking place every summer since 1970 in the East Frisian fishing village of Greetsiel . With various supporting events, it also offers a platform for conversations and discussions between artists and those interested in art. Patrons of the Greetsieler Woche were, among others, the former Federal President Christian Wulff , the Honorary Consul of the Netherlands Johannes Riepma and the President of the East Frisian Landscape, Helmut Collmann .
The international Imke Folkerts Prize for Fine Arts is awarded every two years during the Greetsieler Woche . It is endowed with 10,000 euros and is linked to the exhibition of the works that were shortlisted. A changing five-member jury made up of artists, art historians, museum experts, gallery owners and / or collectors will decide on this, also in Greetsiel. In 2011, the fifth award, which was still young, was already recognized and the jury had to decide on 265 works. During the Greetsieler Woche, a representative of the jury will offer a guided tour and discussion of the Imke Folkerts Prize and the exhibition.
Alternating with the Imke Folkerts Prize, there is a painting and art competition every two years, which is advertised for general education schools in the German and Dutch regions on both sides of the Ems .
