The Fishkabour border crossing near Semalka is a crossing over the Tigris River from the Iraqi side in the east to the Syrian side in the west via a pontoon bridge . The bridge was closed in 2013. In August 2014 several thousand fled Yazidis from the region around Sinjar against the units of the IS over this bridge to Syria. Due to the Duhok Agreement in October 2014, the border crossing was largely reopened for the movement of goods and people.
