The Görsdorf border monument covers part of the former inner-German border between Thuringia and Bavaria, near Görsdorf in the Sonneberg district . In 2005, the fragments of the GDR border security systems were placed under monument protection as a monument. The border monument is located directly on the adventure road of German unity .

history

The small town of Görsdorf was in the 500-meter restricted area on the inner-German border. The blocking measures there were increasingly tightened from 1961 and in 1981 led to the construction of a 3.5 meter high concrete wall, which was primarily intended to serve as a screen.

After the political change in the GDR, the border barriers on the territory of the GDR were officially cleared. With the intervention of the then mayor of Görsdorf, part of the border wall was saved from demolition. In the following years these remnants of the German division fell into oblivion and were left to decay. In 2004 the Elke, Andreas and Manuel Erhard families leased the entire monument area. After extensive renovations, the border monument near Görsdorf was placed under state monument protection as a monument of the Free State of Thuringia in 2005. In addition to an approximately 25-meter-long fragment with nine sections of the wall, the evidence security strip, parts of a vehicle barrier and the path of the columns have been preserved. The border monument is located in the former border section 50.

Wild bees and butterflies from a nearby gorse heather can live and hibernate in the cavities of the concrete steles and slabs. The sponsorship of the border monument at Görsdorf lies with the German Board of Trustees for the Promotion of Science, Education and Culture. V.
