gretl is a free stats - software , mainly for econometrics . The name is an acronym for G nu R egression , E conometrics and T ime-series L ibrary . gretl can be used as a stand-alone program via a user interface and can also be used with other statistics and econometrics packages , e.g. B. X-12-ARIMA , TRAMO / SEATS or R . gretl is written in C and uses the GIMP toolkit for the graphical user interface . The user interface is available in various languages, including German . Gnuplot is used to create graphics and LaTeX , among others, is used to display numerical results and models . Operation via the command line is possible, as is scriptability with its own script language hansl .
gretl has been discussed several times in the Journal of Applied Econometrics and once in the Journal of Statistical Software .
Supported data formats
gretl has its own, fully documented, XML -based data format . It can import data in other formats, for example ASCII files, files in CSV format and various database formats .
