The Greek Byzantine Choir is a church choir of the Greek Orthodox Church .

history

The choir was founded in 1977 by the musicologist and Greek Orthodox church musician and choir director Lykourgos A. Angelopoulos . The Greek-Byzantine Choir performs the traditional rich church chant of the Greek-Orthodox Church. Since its inception, the choir has given over six hundred concerts in Europe, North America, Asia and Africa, enriching Orthodox services and taking part in many music festivals .

Some of the highlights of the choir were the participation in the nightly vigil in the St. Catherine's Monastery in Egypt, in Cologne Cathedral , in the Megaspiläon in Greece, and also in the Saint Demetrios Cathedral in Thessaloniki.

In terms of musicology, the Greek-Byzantine Choir deals with the relationship between Orthodox and ancient Roman church chants .
