Elliniki Aristera

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Elliniki Aristera ( Greek Ελληνική Αριστερά , Ellinikí Aristerá, abbreviation Ε.ΑΡ. Greek Left ) was a Greek political party in the 1980s and 1990s. Emerging as the successor to the Communist Party of Greece (Inland) , she represented a eurocommunist course.

After the Greek Left stood together with the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) in the electoral alliance Synaspismos , they briefly took part in a government with the conservative Nea Dimokratia in 1989 , in order to withdraw the immunity of the Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou, who had ruled until then, and bring him to justice to be able to. In 1991 the KKE left the alliance, whereupon Synaspismos was founded as a party that incorporated the Greek left.
