Griepen

Griepen are aids for gripping and moving jute sacks , bales and other heavy packages. They were primarily used in port handling prior to containerization .

Griepen are always used in pairs and represent the worker's “steel” fingernails , which he “claws” into the surface of the package in order to move it.

The name "Griepen" comes from the Low German language and means "gripping".
