The Great Mosque of Kuwait ( Arabic المسجد الكبير, DMG al-masǧid al-kabīr ) is the largest mosque in Kuwait .

The total area in Kuwait City comprises 45,000 m 2 , of which 20,000 m 2 are built over. The mosque offers space for 7,000 in the 5,000 m 2 male prayer room and another 950 in the separate women's prayer room. The building has a mighty dome (diameter 26 m; height 47 m), a 70 m high minaret and a monumental portico (height: 15 m). There is also a library and an underground 5-storey underground car park with 550 parking spaces on the premises .

The mosque was designed in 1976 by the Iraqi architect Mohammed Saleh Makiya . Construction lasted from 1979 to 1986. A well-known imam of the mosque is Mishari Rashid al-Afasi .
