Ulrich von Bismarck

Ulrich von Bismarck (born March 11, 1844 in Briest ; † October 26, 1897 in Darmstadt ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

It comes from the Altmark noble family Bismarck . His parents were Wilhelm von Bismarck (1803–1877), heir to Briest and Welle, and his wife Wilhelmine, née Countess von der Schulenburg (1804–1844).

Military career

Bismarck joined the 2nd Magdeburg Infantry Regiment No. 27 of the Prussian Army on April 23, 1861 , coming from the Cadet Corps as a Second Lieutenant . In April 1866 he was promoted to battalion adjutant, took part in this position in the same year during the war against Austria in the battle of Münchengrätz and was wounded at Königgrätz . His achievements were honored with the award of the Red Eagle Order IV class with swords. After the peace agreement , Bismarck was regimental adjutant from September 21, 1866 to September 24, 1867 and then served as an adjutant of the 9th Infantry Brigade . As such, Bismarck, meanwhile promoted to Prime Lieutenant, took part in the war against France in 1870/71 . He was used in the battles at Spichern , Vionville , Gravelotte , Beaune-la-Rolande , Orléans and Le Mans and was awarded both classes of the Iron Cross .

With his transfer to the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot on April 25, 1872 , Bismarck was promoted to captain and used as company commander . This was followed from March 22, 1881 to January 19, 1884 a command as an adjutant at the General Command of the Guard Corps . As a major , Bismarck was then commander of the 1st Battalion in the 3rd Guard Grenadier Regiment "Queen Elisabeth" . In the following year he was transferred to the Emperor Alexander Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 1 as commander of the 2nd Battalion, and on September 19, 1888, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . A month later, Bismarck came as a regular staff officer in the 2nd Magdeburg Infantry Regiment No. 27. As a colonel he was then from February 14, 1891 to August 17, 1894 in command of the 3rd Guards Regiment on foot . Subsequently, he was commissioned to lead the 50th Infantry Brigade (2nd Grand Ducal Hessian) in Darmstadt under position à la suite of the regiment . On September 12, 1894, Bismarck became major general and commander of this brigade . He died in the course of his service.

family

Since 1876 he was married to Olga von Gersdorff (1855-1936), the daughter of Prime Lieutenant Hugo von Gersdorff on Petershain in the Rothenburg district. Her brother was District Administrator Kurt von Gersdorff . After Ulrich von Bismarck's death, his widow lived in Niemitz-Kauffung an der Katzbach .

The son Kurd (1879–1943), who married Gabriele Freiin von Haerdtl (* 1886), and the daughter Olga (1881–1958) emerged from the marriage. She was married to Leopold von Rauch (1876–1955), who later became a colonel in the General Staff and head of the Foreign Armies Department .
