The Great Obuchovsky Bridge ( Russian Большой Обуховский мост Bolshoi Obuchowski most ), also popularly known as the Wire Cable Bridge ( Вантовый мост Wantowy most ), crosses the Neva in Saint Petersburg on the eastern outskirts of the city. The bridge on the KAD ring road is one of the longest bridges in Russia. It is the second Neva bridge from the east and the first in the city.
It is the only Neva bridge in the Saint-Petersburg metropolitan area that does not have to be opened at night to allow shipping to Lake Ladoga . This makes it the only continuously navigable connection between the southwest and northeast banks of the Neva.
The pylons of the bridge have a height of 126 m, the height of the bridge above the water level of the Neva is 30 m. Strictly speaking, there are two bridges running parallel to one another at a small distance. On the southern bridge, vehicle traffic runs from west to east, the other is intended for the opposite direction. The two bridges were opened in 2004 and 2008.
