Great Synagogue (Jelgava)
The Great Synagogue in Jelgava (German Mitau ), a city in the region Zemgale in Latvia , was built in the 1860s. The synagogue was built according to plans by the architect Otto Dietze (1833–1890) and renovated in the 1930s.
With the attack on the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, the entire territory of Latvia came under the control of National Socialist Germany until July 8, 1941 . This began the annihilation of almost all of the local Jewish population.
The synagogue building was destroyed by the German occupiers during World War II.
