The Great Synagogue in Berehove in the Transcarpathian Oblast of Ukraine was built in the late 19th century. It was not destroyed in World War II and was used as a synagogue until 1959 . It was then confiscated by the government and converted into a theater and cultural center. The entire building was surrounded by a new shell made of concrete, so that the exterior of the formerly magnificent building can no longer be seen. Today the front is covered with a large cloth with the imprint of the former view of the synagogue.
