The Grand Bazaar of Tehran (or Grand Bazaar ; Persian Bāzār-e bozorg ) is located in the Basar district in the southern center of Tehran . It is the largest of its kind in the world and houses banks, mosques and guest houses. Of course, trade takes up the largest part here.

Numerous corridors specializing in different goods run through the bazaar. In total they cover a distance of 10 km. The bazaar is accessible through several entrances, some of which are locked and guarded in the evening. The most important trading hours are between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

history

Bazaar activities in Iran can go back to the 4th century BC. To be traced back. After the Islamization of the country in the 7th century, trade in this area increased and the bazaar gained in importance, especially during the Safavid rule and in the last 200 years. Until the 19th century, the bazaar was a “city within a city”. As the city of Tehran grew in the 20th century, the bazaar gradually lost its importance. Today, despite this development, it is still an important trade center in the country. It is also of great interest to tourists.
