Großer Knechtsand is a sand bank in the eastern Wadden Sea of Lower Saxony . It belongs to the sandbank group of the Knechtsände and is located between the islands of Mellum in the southwest and Neuwerk in the northeast.
In the center of the sandbank is the Hohe Knechtsand , the only high sand of the Knechtsände.

The Großer Knechtsand is one of the most important moulting areas for the shelduck and the sandwich tern . In addition, eider ducks and seals numerous.
