Grotjahn Foundation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grotjahn Foundation in Schladen was launched on May 12, 1851 on the initiative of Heinrich Grotjahn (1794–1872) as a rescue house with a farm. From these early years hardly anything has survived apart from the log books and a few annual reports. Today's buildings do not allow any conclusions to be drawn about those of the early days. Even the rebuilt well is probably not in its original location. In place of the "rescue house for morally neglected boys" at that time, a retirement and nursing home was established in the course of the following year by a resolution of September 14, 1929.

All that remains are the area, the name Grotjahn and the foundation itself as a social institution that is close to the Evangelical Lutheran Church and is a member of the Diaconal Work of the Braunschweig Regional Church . Even if it was subject to considerable change over time with its different political systems and social conditions - during the German Confederation , the Empire , the Weimar Republic , National Socialism , the old Federal Republic of Germany up to today's Federal Republic - it is a different task today took over and hardly anything reminds of the former farm, today's life in the Grotjahn Foundation is based on these early years.

Through a private initiative, later supported by "Christian charity" and the state, an institution was created that made Christian social work its task and tradition.
