Grotto geyser

The Grotto Geyser is a geyser in the upper geyser basin of Yellowstone National Park in the USA .

The geyser got its name in 1870 from the Washburn-Langford-Doane Expedition , who first explored the area.

The Grotto Geyser is a fountain-like geyser. Its eruptions occur roughly every 8 hours and can last from 90 minutes to more than 10 hours. There have been eruptions that lasted more than 24 hours. The ejected water only reaches a height of up to 10 m, but a large amount of water is ejected.

The peculiar shape of the geyser cone, from which the grotto geyser owes its name, was probably created by sinter deposits of the geyser eruptions on tree stumps.

The grotto geyser is part of the grotto group named after it . This group, with its connections and mutual influences, is one of the most complex geyser groups in Yellowstone National Park. The Grotto Group is also connected to the Giant Geyser .
