The pit Glockenberg was a roofing slate - mine south of Granetalsperre near Goslar in the mining region Harz .

After the council slate mine was closed in 1896 , a Goslar master roofer began quarrying slate on Glockenberg in 1897. In the first few years the slate was only mined in open-cast mining, and from 1928 onwards, underground mining was used. The pit was opened up by the Hans-Georg-Schacht and by a tonnage-long shaft with daytime opening . The pit was closed in 1969 due to sales difficulties.

Thereafter, the extraction of slate flour and split from the existing stockpiles, which had been ongoing for many years, was continued until the 1970s. During this time, the mine was kept operational until it was demolished in 1974. The houses belonging to the pit were still inhabited until 1992, but were also demolished afterwards.

Current condition

Nowadays only the covered and fenced shaft can be seen. All daytime facilities were canceled.
