Grunay

This article covers an island in the east of the Shetland Islands. Not to be confused with Gruney in the northwest of the Shetlands.

Grunay is an island in the east of the Out Skerries , a group of islands that belongs to the Scottish Shetlands . On Grunay lived the guards of the Out Skerries Lighthouse , a lighthouse that stands on the little northeastern island of Bound Skerry . This was automated in 1972, and Grunay has been uninhabited since then. The residential building, outdoor facilities and a spatially separated, walled garden have been listed as Category C buildings since 1998 and are therefore under monument protection .
