Basic order of the EKD
The basic order of the EKD forms the basis for the canon law of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD). It was passed on July 13, 1948 in Eisenach . Through church laws passed by the Synod , it has been repeatedly changed at individual points over the years.
In the preamble, the gospel of Jesus Christ is set down as the basis of the Evangelical Church, in the way “as it is given to us in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments”.
The relationship between the member churches is regulated individually. According to Article 4, Paragraph 1, No. 1, baptism that has been properly performed in a member church should be recognized in all member churches.
The composition and term of office of the synod, the church conference and the council of the EKD are also determined.
By resolution of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany on November 6, 2003, the arbitration boards for employee representation disputes were converted into ecclesiastical courts, whose tasks and responsibilities are described in Articles 32 and 32 c of the constitution.
