The primary school Am Neandertal is a primary school on Gruitener Straße in Mettmann . Today it is named after the Neandertal , shaped by the Düssel , before the school was called after Albert Schweitzer . The school was built from 1951 to 1954, and a gymnasium was built in 1958. The architect of the building was Denis Boniver . The school is now a listed building. It shouldn't be a “dark barracks building”, the classrooms are only on one side, the schoolyards for big and small school children are separated. Four classrooms are equipped with separate group study rooms. There is a loggia for outdoor classes, an aviary and numerous plants to loosen up the architecture. The hallway behind the entrance area has been widened for meeting purposes.
