The Grunwald Monument is an equestrian statue of King Wladyslaw Jagiello II in Krakow , Jan-Matejko-Platz, Kleparz district . It was designed by Antoni Wiwulski , destroyed by the German occupation troops in November 1939 and reconstructed in 1976 by Marian Konieczny.

history

The memorial was inaugurated on the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Tannenberg in 1410 on July 15, 1910 in front of 150,000 visitors in Krakow. During the German occupation of Poland in 1939-40, it was dismantled and the base was blown up. In 1972 a committee was established in Cracow to restore the monument. The pedestal was inaugurated on October 16, 1976 and the newly created monument was returned to the public on October 10, 2010. It is located immediately behind the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.
