Kleparz is a district of Krakow in Poland . It is located in the northern part of the Altstadt administrative district .

history

The place developed around the Florianikirche , which was built between 1185 and 1216 , in front of the city wall of Kraków's old town. Under King Władysław I. Ellenlang it was probably mentioned as Alta Civitas , then named Florencja (1358: in Florentia, hoc est circa sanctum Florianum), after the model of the Italian city of Florence . It was formally founded under this name by Casimir the Great in 1366 under Magdeburg law . In 1389 the current name appeared as Clapers , then Klepars (1392), Florencia alias Kleparz (1404), Clepardia (Latin, 1542). The name Kleparz is derived either from the personal name * Klepar (= German Klepper) with the suffix -jь, or from the appellative kleparz (horse market).

The city, with its own market but outside the Kraków city walls, was often destroyed by fires (1476, 1528, 1755) or attacks (1587 Austrians , 1655 Swedes , 1768 Russians ) and became an impoverished suburb. In 1792 Kleparz was incorporated into Krakow by the four-year-old Sejm , and two years later the town lost its town charter. The town planning of Kleparz did not change until the second half of the 19th century. B. The large building of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow was built between 1879 and 1880 . In 1910 the Grunwald monument was inaugurated in front of around 150,000 visitors.

In 1921 Kleparz had 441 buildings with 11,406 inhabitants, the majority of whom were Polish (10,345) and Roman Catholic (11,033), and the largest minority of Jews was 922.
