The Guadalupe Mountains are a mountain range in the US state of Texas and in southeast New Mexico . The highest mountain, Guadalupe Peak , is the highest point in Texas at 2,667 meters. The Guadalupe Mountains are located in the far west of the state, on the border with the state of New Mexico .
The Guadalupe Mountains National Park , to which the Guadalupe Mountains belong today, was established in 1972. The Guadalupe National Park cannot be driven through. The inside of the park can only be explored on foot.
The vegetation in the canyon is a very unique mixture of desert plants and mountain forests. Here cacti and agaves stand next to ferns , walnut trees and pines . The wildlife is still pretty much intact. Foxes and coyotes live here as well as mountain lions , deer , hares and porcupines .
