Guarapo is a Spanish name for sugar cane juice .

The popular, tasty and mostly chilled product is made by squeezing the sugar cane between rolling wheels and then pouring it into a cup filled with ice splinters.

Guarapo originally comes from Colombia and describes a fermented drink that is either made from sugar cane juice or from panela , a typical food in South America (hardened sugar cane juice), in which the panela is dissolved in water and thus liquefied again.

On the Canary Island of La Gomera , the sweet juice that is obtained from the Canarian palm is called guarapo. It is thickened to produce so-called palm honey .
