Guerou ( Arabic كرو, Guérou ) is a city and department in the Assaba region of Mauritania .

geography

The department is located in the north of the region between Aftout and Kiffa . To the north, in the Tagant region, the Moudjeria department follows . The city itself is located at about 164  m above sea level at the source of the same name between Mount Tizzai in the east and the temporary lake Tichilît el Kountaoul in the west. The N 3 runs from northwest to east through the village. In the 1990s, the town was the 15th largest town in Mauritania with around 14,000 inhabitants. In 2013, the population was 22,300.
