history

According to information from the early modern family tradition, the origins of the Guicciardini are not known until around 1300. During this time they appointed two officials in the young office of the Gonfaloniere della Giustizia .

In the summer of 1378, a Luigi Guicciardini headed the Gonfalonierat of the Republic of Florence when the Ciompi uprising , the rebellion of the lower class, brought order with it. With the rise of the Medici in mind, which culminated in the seizure of power by the elder Cosimo in 1434 , the Guicciardini were positioned between the parties. After the Medici had established their party tyranny, the Guicciardini were constant representatives of their hometown on the Arno, in the ruled area in Italy and sometimes in Christianity abroad.

Francesco Guicciardini (1483–1540) created the prominence of his family that continues to this day, as he left the largely authoritative and fundamental work on the history of Italy from 1492 to 1534 in the “Storia d'Italia”.
