from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Francesco Conte Guicciardini (born October 5, 1851 in Florence , † September 1, 1915 in Florence ) was an Italian lawyer and politician . From March 10, 1896 to December 14, 1897, he was Minister of Agriculture, Industry and Trade in the Rudinì (2nd and 3rd) cabinets , from February 8 to May 29, 1906 and from December 11, 1909 to March 31, 1910 in the cabinets of Sonnino (1st and 2nd) Foreign Minister of his country.

Life and political career

After studying law at the University of Pisa , the young Count Guicciardini immediately aspired to politics. From 1882 he was a member of the Camera dei deputati for a Florentine constituency , where he adhered to the left-wing liberals of the Giuseppe Zanardellis faction and specialized in questions of agriculture and forestry. For a time he was Depretis General Secretary (today: State Secretary ) in the Ministry of Agriculture before he was mayor of his hometown from 1889 to 1891 and therefore resigned from parliament in November 1889. Re-elected to the Chamber of Deputies in November 1892, Guicciardini was now primarily concerned with foreign policy. In the legislative periods 1900 to 1904 and 1909 to 1913 he was one of the vice-presidents of the Chamber of Deputies. After Zanardelli died in 1903, Guicciardini moved closer to Sidney Sonnino's conservative positions . After the fall of the second Sonnino cabinet, he held no government offices or influential parliamentary positions, but remained a member of parliament until his death.
