Guido de Grana (also: Guido de Grona ) is a 13th century cleric who commented on several Latin texts for school lessons.

life and work

Guido was active in northern France between 1245 and 1284. His employer was Wilhelm von Mâcon, Archdeacon of Amiens , who was elected Bishop of Amiens in 1278. The following works were given glosses by Guido de Grana : the Doctrinale of Alexander de Villa Dei , the most important grammar textbook of the late Middle Ages, the Codex Ms. Bern 276 ( Papias , Elementarium ) and about 12 other manuscripts of ancient and medieval texts, and the Gesta militum des Hugo von Mâcon , an extensive narrative work from the middle of the 13th century. As his comments show, Guido de Grana was educated above average and had a special knowledge of ancient literature.
